Ximending is one of the favourite hangouts for Taipei's young people, and you can also find many tourists visiting this area. Ximending is the answer to Japan's Shibuya, with a good mixture of Taiwanese, Japanese and Korean cultures. This is literally a shopping and food heaven for many people, including me. Quiet in the day, it springs up to life in the late afternoon. You can find street performers showing off their skillful techniques. From time to time, you can also find 'illegal' food vendors running away from police, usually at night.

You will be able to find many cheap finds along Bugis Street, ranging from food, to mobile accessories, to clothes, to fashion accessories, to souvenirs, etc. There are also many stalls that sell Chinese New Year goodies such as sweets, dried seafood, decorations, clothes and so on.
You can also see many devotees praying at the nearby Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple. If you are a fan of vegetarian food, you can also find a decent number of eateries in Bugis.
